Helping Inner City Kids Succeed (HICKS) helps meet the needs of youth and families in Washington, DC with community based services. In this time of economic hardship underprivileged communities are facing even bigger challenges. HICKS continues working with the unfortunate to enhance the quality of life for those who have been forgotten and have become victims of disproportionate educational, social, spiritual and economic investment. Although our main focus is youth, experience has taught us that to have a sustainable impact in lives of young people they need the support of family members and we must build productive relationship with the family as well. We believe all youth and families have the ability to better their circumstances by building core competencies, goal setting and executing a plan of action tailored to their personal circumstances.
HICKS Executive Director Trayon White has a heartbeat for the people and has been touching lives through transformative mentoring for 10 years. HICKS is a great example of a grassroots organization. HICKS prides itself on bringing its services to communities where most people are relunctant to go. HICKS is serving in Woodland Terrace, Washington Highland, and Congress Park community serving about 90 youth in various capacities.
